Is that due to you not currently having a carb, or you feel you need an upgrade? Stage 1 kits dont really need a bigger carb to perform - a K+N in box filter or a cone filter is about as much as you need to get in the carb section, along with some tweaking of the idle and mixture screws.

if its a 998 of that age then you have a su hs4. anything bigger and it gets tricky to set it up right.

hif38 is also an option as its the same size as an HS4 but ha the flost bowl internally.

hi mate what you want to do is keep the carb on you have if its a HS4 or a HIF38 there the carbs you want to use on a 1000 so when you buy a stage 1 kit you will get an inlet manifold an cone type air filter an AAA needle and lcb exhaust manifold and an exhaust and you will need to get an exhaust/inlet gasket and what i would do is change all the exhaust rubbers?
