Stumbled on this video on YouTube, not only highlights the dangers of buying unbranded ( most likely Chinese ) and the large counterfeit market

SKF Destroys 15 tons of fake bearings
"Counterfeit bearings with a total weight of 15 tons and a market value of approximately EUR 1 000 000 were destroyed in Greece. The bearings were seized as part of a raid at a dealer’s warehouse in the area of Piraeus, with whom SKF had no business relationship during these years. They were destroyed at a metal recycling facility in Greece, by crushing them in a scrap press, to ensure they will not resurface on the market."

I applaud SKF for taking the steps and the financial burden of going through with this and hopefully it might send a message. Clips like this need to be included in the TV news once a week.

The bummer in all this (and the way so many legal 'actions' have to occur) is it is a length and costly procedure and road to go down to have these actions bought to an end, certainly smaller outfits stand little chance of going right through with it.

There was a session on TV about a week ago about dangerously defective electrical fuses for BS1363 13 amp mains plugs. It is all part of the same problem. The more exposure that ALL dangerous counterfeit goods get,the better.

What people need to do is ALWAYS inform Trading Standards and NEVER send the goods back in usable condition (because they will go straight back on the market and maybe kill someone).

If the vast majority of people do nothing, as seems to be the case on this forum and elsewhere, human nature being what it is, the spivs and scumbags will continue to make a profit and the problem will continue to grow.
