has anyone done this in the past, what sort of price would i get for a good r1 rolling chassis, just missing engine and engine wiring / components?

Just unsure about buying a 5pw engine that i cannot see running

At least i would know the history if i bought a low mileage r1

this one is a bit of a higher price than others but does only have 11k on it, and the chassis looks neat and tidy

Buying just an engine is always a gamble so if you're keen to know it's all ok then buying a complete bike is one way of doing it so long as you don't mind selling all the unwanted parts.
Have a look at some breakers as I think some of the good ones actually take videos of the bike running before it's stripped down. As an alternative

Ive got a complete engine and most of a loom spare that came with a load of bits that I bought for my Pro-Mo kit, he showed me videos of that engine running when I bought it but I have another (ex British Superbikes prototype engine) that i'm fitting to mine so my other engine will go up for sale with any spare bits I have in December time. I am more than happy for the buyer to test it out and return it if there is any problems with it!! Give me a shout if it might be of interest!

I bought a damaged R1 and sold the partsI did not need. Most of it went pretty fast but some parts take forever....
