no downsides with 10's.

You need 7.5" cooper s brakes or an after market conversion or do teh foesta caliper conversion

I'm assuming it's a late Cooper (1990's models), so I'm gonna base it on that

The only way to put 10's on is if you convert to 7.5" Cooper S discs or get some 8.4" discs (what you have) and have them modified to 7.9". Both very pricey. You could get a drum brake setup, but they're crud really. And you could get some Cooper 7" brakes (old type, not yours), but theyain't much better.

There is no downside to 10's apart from it can be hard to source tyres directly through a garag. Easy to source through laces like mytyre.co.uk or a Mini specialist, though. 10's actually handle better than their larger alternatives

You can buy them from suppliers, but they ain't cheap. You're not just buying new discs. It's a whole new braking setup and not for someone with no mechanical knowledge. It'll cost anywhere from £250-£650 for a brake setup (closer to £300-£350 for standard) depending on what you get.

If you would find changing the brake pads, discs and fluid a challenge, then this is waaaaay out of your league as it involves a lot more work that just that.

One other option - on p99 of this month's Mini Mag, they mention in response to this very question some Japanese 10 inchers which will fit over the 12' brake setup. Imported (they think) by Minispeed and they're £60 a pop which aint too bad.
They don't look like Revo's though - they're alloys made to look like old stlyee Cooper steelies.

Look I'm really not wishing to speak out of turn here as this place is hugely helpful to me :gimme:*
But....

Why don't topics that come up time and again get moved to FAQs, even when the relevant threads have been PM'd to the moderators and links provided for an easy merge?
Easier still to make sarcastic "jokes" I suppose.

I know this place is your baby and if that comes with the territory then fine. Again, this is not intended to be insulting, just constructive criticism you may wish to take on board to make the forum better.

i think there are a few FAQ's but there is also a search button. and it is at the top of a few threads on how to use the search function.

i understnad that questions get asked and without them being asked there would nt be much activity.

I do hate answering a thread with "use the search button" and i hate asking questions on other forums (not just mini) where the only answer is "use the search button"

Personally i think the sarcastic answer is a much better and funnier way of putting this.

Not wanting to tread on Jammy's toes here but it is something that bugs me aswell.

Do a search and ifyou dont find the answer you want then ask the question. It really is that easy

Just my 2 penneth not meant to be a rant(oopsie)

Oh I know, and I use the search wherever I can, and sometimes the function even works...
But this topic, the brake light one (which even - ahem - had a new thread started on how often there are threads started about it) and the fog / spot light one (which I put up a load of pics for, others posted wiring diagrams for, and which I PM'd the mods with the links for) still aren't in FAQs.
Just think it's a tad harsh when the OP might have tried the search function and got the usual error message, that's all.

i think the problem is unless everyone has read through every FAQ these questions are going to be asked...especialy as the newer guys probably dont read then right away...i know i didnt and when i did i found interesting stuff.
so putting stuff in FAQ wont always help as not everyone will read them anyway
