You can buy them to just tack on I believe?

You could just make one. Can't see someone putting one on and leaving the cut outs

Nope. Asked the owner and he said it was a mk3 cooper s. I did ask "on a G Greg?" But didn't get much response. Looked like the right shell. Internal door hinges, rectangular rear lights etc. But I did notice it had the weather strips on the roof seam but the drainage slots were cut outs like a new type shell as opposed to the horizontal slits you get on an old shell.

Can't be a MK3 S on a G plate unless it is on a cherished number.

 

It could be a Re-shelled MK2 S ?

 

Either way, sounds like it has some "history" behind the story
