Not looking for an argument over it just a genuine question as been quite a few years now and not heard a thing

Find out who the administrators were who dealt with the liquidation and ask them. It's their job to answer these tyres of questions.
Normally there is a pecking order for paying out creditors (that's what you are), they pay the administrators first, then HMRC if any tax is owed - after that I'm not sure how it works, but you are right, if anything is left it's so many pence in the pound.

Hi,
Obviously not sure of your situation but if you were a customer and bought on a credit card you may have some redress from your credit card company as they are joint and severaly liable.
If you were a customer who paid cash or a supplier then as above you need to speak to the administrators but usually after the administrators, HMRC and staff costs you will be lucky to see anything.
