when I bought my first mini for my ex, the starter was a sticky bugger, so I Dipped the whole lot in a vat of Electrical Switch cleaner fluid (I build guitars so had lots around... works wonders!) and then I let it dry, re attatched it, Bingo, never caused problems... proably should've lubed it up too though lol.

Just get a new one.

I'd guess at water in the connectors, but pop it off, make sure it's all clean and not corroded, give the connectors a proper clean inside and out, spray some WD40 about a bit and pop it back on. Also wouldn't hurt to check the connections on the starter solenoid as on some minis this is below the windscreen washer tank, so in cold water forms condensation, this drips onto solenoid, gets into electrics and stops it working so well, the wonders of mini design!

Good luck,

Dave
