Hi has anyone had any experience with the Minispares Evolution 001 & 002 cams, i'm building an mg metro based motor with a ported and polished big valve head, hif44, lightened flywheel 10" wheels and 3.44:1 diff ratio. I do have 1.5 roller rockers but I understand that you can only use them with the evo 002 cam, Is there any benefit in using these with this type of camshaft.

I really would like a torquey motor rather than out and out bhp.

You can use 1.5 rockers with Both.
Evo 001 if you want torque. Sell the 1.5 rockers and buy 1.3 rockers from minispares (the cheapo ones,no need for rollers). You ll have money left and more low down power.

1275 as per standard mg metro and road use.

I didn't look this time around as last time I looked, there was little more than 'comes on the cam,,,,' sorta stuff, but on review, there's little on the EVO 002,,,,

Agree with Moke Spider, the EVO-001 cam info is good:

- SEAT DURATION ON INLET 264 AND EX 268. CAM LIFT IN 264 EX 289,

 

But EVO-002 cam info is missing the critical bit about duration:

- 107 degrees at full lift on No1 inlet. Nominal Lobe Lift on Inlet & Exhaust 0.286" 0.285". Valve Clearances Inlet 0.015" Exh 0.015"

It is unlikely that for a car used on the public roads a driver will notice any real difference between an MG Metro cam, a Kent 266 and an Evo001 or 002.

On a track there might be a few tenths of a second per lap difference, but the difference for road driving will be the quality of engine build, how well the head parting is done and the accuracy of the cam timing. The distributor advance curve will also be important as will the selected compression ratio.

In practice the key to road performance is how well the head porting is done and how much mid-range torque the engine produces.

The 3.44:1 FDR will be ideal and with standard gear ratios the peak torque should be around 4000 rpm for best road manners.

if you have a good mg metro cam I would use it. mine exactly same spec as yours and 86 hp goes realy well and its a factory billet cam very hard wearing. but your choice. there's always a.c. dodd cam rs. just make sure you get very good head mine gave 22 hp more and with med sub and filter

I have run an evo1 cam with a default metro dizzy, it was working very fine.

 

I have switched to de correct minispares dizzy after some time (because people say the curve is better). The difference is there, but verry litte.

Minispares don't sell cheap 1.3 rockers. The S ones are only 'close' to 1.3. Contact AC Dodd if you want correct 1.3 rockers.

The EVO1 cam calls for non standard tappet clearances (14 inlet and 16 exhaust).

I have set it like this but I find it is pretty "clattery" at idle.
​Have any of you using the EVO1 also found it noisy?

Some people say a "tappy engine" is a "happy engine", but it just sounds crap to me.
