I guess he's asking what process did you follow to make sure the crank's in the right position when measuring ?

Well ?I just watched for full depression on each valve and adjusted the one indicated by the "rule of nine" same as when it called for all valves to be @12 Thou' on the old cam.
I set mine (ev 002) using the rule of 9 and at .015". Runs fine. No clicky clacky.
Good to hear, I will see what Minispares say for the EVO2.
A guy in my club says he installed an EVO1 and set it all to 12 thou' and it ran fine for 10 years.

Feeler gauges, isn't that the usual way to set them?
If the rockers/valve tip is worn, feeler gauges can give a greater than necessary valve clearance.
When setting tappets, it has to be borne in mind that the valve stem wears an indentation into the face of the rocker. This prevents a really accurate tappet adjustment..
If you do not possess a tappet setting dial gauge, a normal engineers dial gauge will do just as well.
The procedure is the same as using your feeler gauge except that you set the dial gauge up on the cylinder head with the pointer resting on the head of the rocker. Press down fairly firmly on the rocker valve end and zero the gauge.
Next lift up on the rocker and read off the clearance, from the gauge.
Use a magnetic base to support your gauge and repeat the procedure for each valve.

I don't think there is anything wrong with feelers in this instance - if you are unsure .....set with rule of 9s ( as you have done ) and check with 'just rocking' method
I would possibly check your adjuster threads - as some of the alloy sets have very soft metal and can pull threads.

The EVO1 cam calls for non standard tappet clearances (14 inlet and 16 exhaust).
I have set it like this but I find it is pretty "clattery" at idle.
​Have any of you using the EVO1 also found it noisy?Some people say a "tappy engine" is a "happy engine", but it just sounds crap to me.
I've only recently noticed that the valve clearances for the evo001 cam are 14/16 thou. I fitted one to my wife's 1330 about 4/5 years ago and the recommendation was the standard 13 thou, which I used. Minispares have changed the clearance recommendations now to 14/16. At 13 though tappet clatter is fairly quiet. On the rolling road the engine made 89bhp and 93ftlbs of torque. I've asked Minispares for their reasoning but as yet wait for a reply. If you Google it then the AI gives a reason which you can read.
