Spi 1995 Huge Consumption, And Technical Control Refused

Best Answer gdudu , 27 October 2018 - 10:48 AM

Hello

Good new, the technical control for pollution was OK, The CO was about 0.3  :-)

Bad news :

The technical control was not accepted cause of oil drops. The new rules don't accep this, and the techicien told me that with an english car it would be impossible ....

And now, I have a problem when I accelerate : there is a big hole and the motor loses all power and frequently stalls

I have reseted the ECU with readmems (readmems.exe com3 interactive and OxFA), but this is the same

I have made a little log file attached

This is a good example of how simple things can ruin the SPi system. I know it's true in 2005 when, like many others, I buy a car with a hidden problem >_<

I hope everything goes well with the test and that I'm waiting to hear the results. :techsupport:

Hi,

I didn't go to technical control, no time

But I have a big big question and doubt : I have no manifold gasket like this http://www.minispare...UG704053MG.aspx

I only have this type of metalic gasket (entretoise in french, cannot traduce) inside the head and inside the manifold, on each vacuum

??? Do you think this is normal ???

You certainly need a gasket and the locating rings.

Ah, YES YES

Rings are OK they are in place, but there is no gasket. I think that can be a cause of my wrong CO

This is odd, cause I don't feel any leak, and no specific noise

I will buy it before going back to Technical Control,

Thanks

wow, no gasket?!.......... not only vacuum leak, also exhaust leak !

maybe some liquid seal has been used?.............

Smoke test would find problem.

When gasket fitted, reset idle stop, then adjust throttle cable, as before.

Well, I have dismounted maniflow 3 or 4 time, and I never saw this manifold gasket

Perhaps it is glued, or a liquid seal, but I didn't noticed anything

When I saw the manifold located rings, I though that was the only seals, and I didn't think anymore, it was OK for me

Yesterday, I was looking a Haynes book (or other) and I saw this !!

I will go to buy this on monday and fit it

OK, the gasket was in place. I thougth it was moving when dismonting manifold, but no. The exhaust manifold was not dismounted, then the gasket couldn't move

And I'm gone to the tezchnical control, and it was bad.

The same than before, bad CO value at 0.50

Bad for me, I don't know what to do now, and not sure a mechanic man would do better

So much for the new thermostat.

Are there members of a Mini or Rover club in southern France - or even friends - that you could ask for recommendations for good diagnostic or engine-tuning garages that you could take it to? Your car is nothing special: a fuel-injected, ECU controlled system - the technology should be well understood by any good diagnostics technician with an oscilloscope, a gas analyser and other kit, so they should quickly be able to fix it.

Smoke test exhaust system.....

What are other readings please, was Lambda value given? All CO reading 0.50...... suspicious.

Fuel control good from data, STFT no worry as Lambda oscillations good showing lambda 1 target. Maybe exhaust leak...... smoke test.

If Lambda is lean, and CO rich...... exhaust leak. If HC zero, Cat is working and HC should be minimal.

Maybe Catalytic converter is end of life? Was car driven hard then put straight on test? Cat needs to be hot. Long way from engine, won't get hot at idle without help.

Not sure what you mean by that. It is not very helpful.

Yes, I think to inspect and change the cat

The inspection was done after 5 km, perhaps not enough, but it was done quickly, cause I didn't pay and go ahead everyone

But it was the same than before : start at 1, and after 5 minutes at 3000 rpm, going down to 0.5 and it did not go above, staying at 0.5

And the lambda was good for the technicien (at 1 if I remember)

All was good except CO

How will a new catalytic converter stop clouds of black smoke on startup? A new cat wont even treat the symptoms, let alone address the underlying cause. Black smoke and high CO are indicative of a rich condition; throwing expensive parts at the car in the hope theyll fix it is both wasteful and not much of a troubleshooting strategy.

Please calm. Read my post. Cat is working!!! If cat was not working HC would be much higher than 0-250ppm.

Normal lambda of 1.00 - 1.09 and high CO is good indication of exhaust leak.

Cat performance tails off with age especially with hard life of rich condition. New Cat for Mini not that expensive anymore.

Fact remains when car is warm despite stft issue, control is ideal.

Now getting to mechanical issues.

Fuel pressure. Injector number. Smoke test exhaust, to begin.

Hi,

I've checked the compression today, the 4 cylinders are between 10 and 10.5 bar (150 PSI) ,with a chinese testor, I think this is OK

To come back to the rich condition, what do you think of my spark plugs ? This is one, but they are all the same, and I've cleaned them 200 km ago
