HELP!

I have been installing my window into my drivers door, well attempting to without much success...

I have a brand new set of runners, the regulator is fine, and the only thing I can think of is that the channel seal that the glass sits between is way too tight as i cannot move the glass once its between this channel!

I thought that I could try a used seal, but haven't got one, so if anyone has one I would very much like to purchase one off them.

If anyone else has any similar experiences advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Are you struggling to fit the glass on to the channel? Got any photos.

Are you saying that once it's all in the regulator can't move the glass, cause it's too tight?

Mine were like that for a week or so. Plenty of lube (wd40 or silicone spray) down the sides of the glass/seal is your friend. Then leave the window wound up tightly for a few days to settle the seal.

With a struggle I can move the window up and down but with a struggle.. doesn't the wd40 leave streaks for a while though?
Due to the seal being so tight I cannot line the regulator up enough to screw it in place

+1 for silicon spray rather than WD40.
A much better lubricant in this situation.

I was assembling my new shell and installed new Mini Spares window seals. The left window would not go up or down without a real fight! Thr right side was very tight, but it would work with effort. I thought maybe the new doors had been put together incorrectly or something. I was at my wits end having tried silicone lubricants and graphite and talcum powder. In the end I took it all apart and installed an old seal we had bought 10 or 20 years ago, but was still new in the bag. The window now worked as it was meant to! I thought about sending it back to MS, but postage is prohibitive for items that size and after having bought thousands of dollars worth of parts for my build this was the only seriously flawed piece they sent. I should have measured the thickness of the good and bad seal, but I was so happy that the other one worked I didn't want to take it back out! Live and learn!

Sometimes rubber seals just need to form to their new home... I'm new to minis, but I was in auto glass for quite a few years.

Some car shampoo or 'personal lubricant' does the trick.
I hate silicon/wd40/dish soap stuff because of paint and corrosion issues. But that's me being anal about it ( mind the pun :P )

I have this exact same problem the driver side window is so tight its ridiculous and the passenger side actually bent the regulator arm trying to wind it up. I’ve tried silicon lubricant to no avail. I started to wonder if I put the regulators in the wrong sides. They are handed and I’m currently trying to swap them round but the other way around the arms seem to high so I think they were right. But I can’t even move the glass in the channels by hand??? I’m assuming there is only one sort of window seal available. I’ll try some WD40, not perfect but somethings got to move them? Anyone have any pics of the regulators the right way up so I can make sure they are right.

Should the regulator arms point up and out or up and in like the two pictures. If you switch sides with the clip at the front they are either way around.

Hi I had this problem, I measured the distance between where the glass fits in the channels with allowance for the seal against the
max width of the glass and deduced there was a 3 mm interference at a certain section .
So I tried to "improve the width" of the channel with long 12mm threaded rods/nuts and a tube with a modest 1mm result, then carefully
using a persuavise hammer and long motorbike tyre lever gained a bit more width.
Finally using a fine sand stone slowly took 1 mm off the glass, Now its OK

So I finally got the new left hand window regulator I’d managed to bend the old one because the window is ludicrously tight in the seal. Fitted it tonight and had exactly the same problem?? This is really infuriating. The seal is just so tight the window won’t fit in it properly. Its in the frame correctly I’ve tried every sort of lubricant, no difference? What’s more I’m pretty sure I’ve bent the new regulator as well. I wonder if the glass is wrong but all the wind up windows are the same aren’t they. Never had such an annoying problem on a car before. I’m wondering if I need a new door glass?

Just fitted two new minispares genuine window channels to my 72 mini, windows move absolutely freely.
Have you definitely fitted the channels probably? Is the half missing section lined up correctly and not pinching the glass down by the door lock/handle area?
One of my channels was a bit tricky to get to seat properly at the junctions of the window frame and door frame and would have caused the glass to bind if not fitted correctly.
