How many degrees should it be then with this sort of set up ?

Good advice but i need to get it sort of set up to get it to the rolling road..

Are you really going to suggest i stick a modified plug in the cilinder head ( tdc cilinder 1) and hand crank the block in both directions to find TDC the weld on a degree comb ?

I still wont know how many degrees it has to be. All i need really i guess is just to get it safe to drive to the rolling road..

once again thanks for your efforts..Andy

stop ****** guessing snd get it set up properly before you melt a piston or somthing!

If it does not have timing marks on the front pulley and timing cover, does it have them on the flywheel under the inspection plate?

Actualy the molded plug is a good call, although it doesn't need to be as fancy as welding the comb on, just as long as you have a pair of white dots at Tdc,

I did have visions of you thrashing it up and down the road at full throttle, but your obviously know better:-)

Well I am going t ok stop being lazy and first find TDC with a modified plug then put some good marks on it ( degrees scale). Then thrash it up and down hahaha ;-)

No grame nothing mate, it's a inno block or gt with the breather on the back of the timing close to the exhaust manifold. No timing marks what so ever.

The tinny sound aso sounds a bit ( mind the pun) like an exhaust leak.

This very possible I will have a check

The indicator is a small pointer cast into the viewing hole  1|4 is when cylinders 1 & 4 are at TDC

the only time you will find an engine without timing marks is if you have a verto assy and an S damper.

Depending on how the flywheel was machines, the timing marks may have gone from it.

Speaking for myself here, if there are no timing marks on either end of the engine, I put some in at one end or the other during the build, it's easier and more accurate.

To determine TDC with the head on I'd say will be rather inaccurate and I'm not sure what to suggest here.

I'd be inclined to suggest to cease driving the car at all and trailer it to a rolling road so as to be sure that you'll do no engine damage rather than run the gauntlet. It could well end in tears especially as it's making funny noises that you can't put your finger on.
