Hi, I originally had a 3.1 FD ratio gearbox, then changed to 2.9FD which obviously put my speedo out.

I am about to put a new engine in which has a 3.44FD so what is the easiest way to sort out the speedo. I guess I could change the speedo gear in the box but what do I need?

OR I do have a 90mph center speedo from a 998 (Dont know theyear) whic I could use if that had the right gear? Obviously I would need a new cable and would have to sort out the wiring which would be bit of a hastle. What do you reckon? Cheer

hmm depends on the make and type and tpm(turns per mile) of your speedo.

but probs a 16/6 will be right for your speedo drive gears.

not entirely sure though search for a thread about speedo drive that Mini Sprocket started as there is a fait bot of info in there.

by the way is your 2.9 diff going spare?

Thanks for the link, thats useful!

Yer I guess the diff will be going, the gearbox is ok but sometimes pops out of 2nd. Oh and one of the bolts holding the diff cover on has sheared off. Sorry - I was in a rush!

I'll let you know when ive got it out, will be a couple of weeks.

Wait i think ive got something wrong here, The diff i have at the moment is ridiculous, I have a top speed of about 70, It must be 3.9 or 3.6 not 2.9 sorry I have obviuosly got confused. It came off an old 998 metro. Sorry to get your hopes up!

yay god bless metros, lol, i know how you feel!! i had a 1300 a-series lump out of an allegro once!! i think they ran a 3.9 or 4.1!! flat out and screaming at 6800 rpm it would only pull 80mph!! but off the lights it went like err "poo off the garden diging device"!! i'll let you figure that one out!! still got that gearbox! good for high performance out of a small bore lump!! just lacking in top speed!!
