Well 'cheap' is very relative! Not what i would call cheap for a first car, my standard mayfair third party f&t at 17 was £700ish (1999).....declare the mods and go to a specialist mini insurer.
You know you can get a quote without actually owning the car? Just give some insurers a call!

errrrrrrm, no it wont be cheap. expect over a grand for those mods because of your age.

that mini has had looooooads done to it, plus you'll need to specify what 'performance' upgrades have been done.

I think something a bit simpler would be better, a nice standard mini.

Depends on your location, the performance upgrades (if they aren't just what is listed there), your age, your driving experience, your shoe size, what you had for breakfast, what your Nans nickname was at primary school.....

There are so many variables that go into getting an insurance quote the only way you can get an idea is to pick up the phone and ring companies (ring, not online quotes!).

I'd expect £1500 +/- £250. Cosmetic mods aren't as bad as engine mods in terms of insurance, and the fact thats its a 998, and the economy model (so even slower) should swing things in your favour a little, but you won't be able to go with a specilist insurance company yet because of your age, and so of the more mainstream companies ma not even allow you to put different alloys on it.

I certainly hope you didn't buy a car without first looking into insurance quotes!

Location is a fact. I always thought it was bull**** because we lived in a safe, crime free area and i got the same quote as an area known for car theft.

We then moved to where i live now and my insurance went up £40, even though its a nice neighbourhood. Weird.

Performance mods rally bump up insurance quotes. Just ask my dad! A fully costomized (and i mean FULLY customized looks not engine) Capri 3.0 when he was in his mid 20's and he said that the insurance was almost the value of the car! But that was a 3.0 engine.

You could always take off a few of the modifications which would lower the quotes.

And yes Jammy the Economy 998 is VERY slow! The most weve got out of mine was 65 and it was revving its nuts off!

That would almost certainly cost more on insurance than a standard 1275cc engined car! Unfortunately insurers don't like modifications, even though mini drivers are so careful with their cars (often because they have spent so much time grafting on them)

I only passed my test in feb, im 22 and my insurance on a 998 mini with mods and alloys is 800. For a non modded 998 i got about 600ish. But be careful, some insurers wont let you do any mods till you're 25, even alloys...

no it will do more than thatbecause the city E had a very long final drive so it will cruise very nicely at 70 (if not more) at lower revs.

it'll just take a while to get there

erm national speed limit 70mph i know every one speeds to an extent but correct me if i'm wrong but your not on the road yet ie licence and you already want to break the speed limit, to be honest not a good attitude to start with, and that the attitude that bumps young drivers insurance premiums up

not a moan just some strong advice

Because of the tall final drive, the City E will have one of the highest theoretical top speeds out of every mini, very simlar to the last MPIs, but it may not have the power to get the same top speed as the MPIs unless its a tail wind, and the acceleration will be really poor.

Don't knock the City E just because of the lack in performance, trust me, when you get on the road, you'll be very thankful for the cheaper fuel bills and insurance rather than a second on the 0-60. If that mini has a decent shell and the engine runs well then I'd say its a good buy.

Well done that man.

No offence, son, but it's an attitude like this that causes accidents...bad ones.

Good luck doin 80-90 in a 998, you'll need to get a 1275 to do that...and you won't get insured easily on one of them at your age.

Anyways, Gary's a good driver (despite my jokes :proud: ) and if anyone knows about sensible driving, it's him......just not on a bike - sorry Gaz, couldn't resist
