I think what the guy is looking for is an A+ box with the Cooper S ratios apparently BL did fit them to certain metros John guess has a set in his mini and has seen one other or so I read.

There is such a thing as an A+ gearbox as stated by Shooter and thanks Shooter, it is the Close Ratio box I require.

Also I have a 1980 1275GT with and A+ engine AND gearbox, and that's why I would like another....

no there is no such thing as an A+ box.

as stated A+ is the definition of the engine and has no relation to the gear box.  other than all A+ engines cam with a rod change gear box. BUT rod change gearboxes were also fitted to A series engines but these had the same drop type as the earlier remote housing gearboxes. so what are you looking for?

Okay Nick,

It's a gearbox for an A+ engine with close ratio gears

Dont remember the big idler gearbox coming with close ratio gears from the factory, the metro turbos or mg metro certainly didn't nor the rsp or 1990s coopers.or the era mini. I know the gt s came with the 1040 layshaft but ive never seen a gt with the big bearing box!!! out the factory!!!

I maybe wrong I normally am.

If I am please enlighten me.

It is generally accepted that DAM gearboxes are known as A+ and that is how the factory described them.
