Does anyone have any experience with this? From what I'm understanding, you lift up the lever underneath the nob and then just put it in reverse like that? Will I also need to buy any more parts from them for this to work? I know I'm best asking them directly but I just wondered if any of you might know first.

I need to learn not to go onto the KAD website until I can afford lots of nice shiny that I don't necessarily need!

Cheers in advance,

Will

Unless you are driving in a wild situation like a motor race, or are a rotten driver, this is a bit of a luxury.

True, I found a thread about it saying it's very stiff, hard to fit and difficult to change from 3rd to 4th too

It is wise to remember that the so-called 'Quick-Shift' doesn't actually allow quicker gear changes, it merely reduces the linear movement of the gear lever. It is not also known as the 'Quick-Graunch' for nothing!

I quite liked the one I had, but it was rather unnecessary. On another car I reduced the lever movement by renewing all the bushes in the gear linkage and more rigidly mounting the gear linkage.

I'd imagine that's the much cheaper option too! I'll see what I get for my 21st...

nope would not have one in any wild situation. much prefer the standard gate the gears are nicely far apart to be safe.

i drove a mini with one, and it was horrid! Like Nick i much prefer the standard gate. Much easier to know where the gears are. They are a bit marmite you'd have to try a mini with one to see if you like it or not

I fit the 'poor mans' Mini Spares version and I love them. They don't have the Reverse lock-out feature of the KAD ones, but for the most part, work really well. I feel though they way they fit up does need some further work, which I don't mind doing.

They reduce the 'throw' of the lever for shifting and that's all.

If you experience 'granching' when shifting, then your gearbox is tired, nothing more, nothing less.

They really ought to be called "short" shifters, as that is what they do, shorten the throw. Unfortunately the box is not "quick" enough to keep up!

Spend your money elsewhere...

The the reverse lockout, is the only bit I want.

Once the engine's built I'll see what I've got left over and I might give one of them a try. Cheers!

Yeah if they just made a gear stick with that feature and without the short shift then that would be great

Then get this one made by KAD....  :-)

I've fitted one to Project 45.  Works great although you'll need the nylon cup to fit it and I'd suggest when you do fit the nylon cup to remove the pin at the top of the gear lever, rather than the grub screw at the bottom when detaching the internal steel cable that pulls the pin up at the bottom.  All will become clear when you get it!

You can achieve more or less the same thing with a stock shifter.

If you take the bottom plate off and bend it in a little, being sure to keep the stock Reverse Plate in it's original alignment, then re-fit it.

You'll have to lift the lever higher (and if done right, it takes a bit of effort) to engage Reverse.

Then slacken off the big nut on the Steady Rod on top of the Shifter Housing, tilt the Housing over to the Left (or looking from the back of it, Anti-clockwise) a little.

It will take a few goes to get this right, but when set up, as you come out of 2nd gear, you will be able to bring the Shifter all the way hard over in the Neutral Gate and then slip it forward in to 3rd without risk of it going in to Reverse. You may also want to fit stiffer mounts (or a Slide Mount) to the Shifter Housing.

Don't forget to check the adjustment of the Reverse Light Switch.
