In a bit of a quandary what would you do

keep the original cloth interior have it re upholstered as it is in cloth or in leather, two tone red and black

Dashboard it came with a later mpi type dashboard, an absolute mare to fit, well it sort of fits as the bottom rail holding choke light switches etc is about an inch different from the later models, looks ok ish, but not that HP with it, should I put it back to original type cluster?

I’d keep original seats, and put the dashboard back to original.

At the end of the day it’s your car though, so entirely up to you.

There is another side to this, car will be sold once he's finished, (part of pension pot) some of funds will go into more minis :proud:

that will be 2 down 3 to go :ohno: that will just leave one which will not be going Pick up MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I did not recognise the seat as a 91 Cooper as the although the pattern is correct the style is not.

This came from Somerfords webpage.

Mini Racing Green, Flame Red, Checkmate       1989-91         The limited edition Racing Green, Flame Red and Checkmate used Black Crayons seat covers which are still in production and listed here (the 'mainstream' carburetter Cooper of 1990-91 used Black Crayons fabric, too, but in a different seat cover design which is not currently in production).  The good availability of seat covers and the corresponding interior trim panels makes Black Crayons an ideal interior trim package with which to make over and update a 1980s Mini City or Mayfair.

The mainstream in my opinion is the best model Rover produced as it is the closest to the original Cooper S. Fairly spartan, fitted with a carburetor and most importantly for a lot of people, myself included it does not have a sunroof.

I have owned 3 RSP`s and 6 or 7 mainstreams and still have an original unrestored car in virtually A1 condition that i`ve owned for 26 years.

If you're hoping to sell I would suggest using the cheapest option to make it as original as possible - anything non original becomes a personal choice which can limit it's appeal.

If I was looking to buy a cooper I woukd want it as original as possible. I think all of your efforts should go into the cars originality and making it as nice and clean example as possible. Get the history nice and neat as well.

Will have a look at Somerfords would be a great help have been looking at cooper interiors and thought of a mpi cooper engraved leather may be a way to go Jasper did not come with an original interior, thought these cloth seats were close as there the same pattern as the rears

The value in a mainstream cooper is in it's originality. I'd remove the dash and go with a 3 clock cluster, source some proper cooper seats but if not the seats you have are often mistake for the correct ones and imo won't devalue the car.

I loved my mainstream and of the various mini's I've bought and sold over recent years, it's the one I'd wish I'd kept.

As above really. Keep it as original as possible to enhance the dale value.
Buyers are increasingly wanting as-original cars, perhaps with some nice period improvements such as a better audio system, heated screen, driving lights, etc.

For reference purposes, including brilliant pictures and fine detail get yourself a copy of this:

https://www.amazon.c...l/dp/0760312281

Total anoraks read but if you like good pictures of stunning Mini Coopers from 60's up to and including RSP and Mainstream its the book for you.
