Unless you’re doing lots of motorway driving at over 70mph why would you want to change? If it’s purely for sound levels then keep the 3.4 and spend some money on sound proofing. In order to change the pinion you’ll have to split the engine. Lot of hassle for noise recursion only.

have you put the info into the guesswork gear ratio calc?

at 4k rpm you go from 73mph to 80mph saying you have 185/55 13s on

http://www.guess-wor.../Tech/ratio.htm

i still would not change.

nicklouse makes a good point about using the Guessworks ratio and speed calculator: http://www.guess-wor.../Tech/ratio.htm

At a speed of 70mph the Guessworks calculator gives the following engine rpm for FD/tyre combinations:

- 145x10 with 3.44 = 4,260rpm

- 145x10 with 3.2 = 3,971 rpm

- 145x10 with 3.1 = 3,811 rpm

- 175/50x13 with 3.44 = 4,067rpm

- 175/50x13 with 3.2 = 3,800rpm

- 175/50x13 with 3.1 = 3,649 rpm
