New windshield came:

and its in!!!!! But not without help. after 2 hours of swearing and scratching the clear coat since the damn thing slipped forwards off the rubber I ended up asking my mate from around the corner who happens to also have a mini that he rebuilt over 5 years was still hard even with his help, but got there in the end. Thanks again for all the advice. by the way I went with the black filler strip since the chrome one always tends to fade after a while.

Glad you got there in the end, they can be awkward, shame about the clear coat.
Your car looks nice though, reminds me of mine when I'd just fitted the screen.
