I have been cracking on with some other bits in the meantime.

I tried my best to clean the gear linkage housing but it was beyond saving unfortunately so purchased a new one on ebay.

Besides having a bit of a nightmare fitting the new bushings and roll pins it all went together quite well.

Couple of questions though for those in the know:

The original housing has this blanking plastic over one of the holes on the opposite side to the reverse switch, what are people using for this as I can't find a part number anywhere?

The plate on the bottom of the housing is not in good shape and they are out of stock everywhere. Guessing I need to find an old one in reasonable condition and use that?

Also does anyone know what size the screws are as I can't see a reference to them online anywhere?

Cheers all

EDIT My google-fu managed to find the plate and screws here if anyone else is looking:

I always thought they were a 3/16" UNF pan head screw:

Where did you get your new linkage from on eBay? or did you buy everything separately?

Most parts were from Somerford Mini as they were the only ones who had all of them in stock.

Shell is still in paint, I went to have a look at it yesterday and he is saying another 2 weeks and it will be done. He has raptored the underside which looks amazing and has given it a really tough finish.

I have been running out of things to do without the shell here, there's only so many times you can organise everything!

One thing I have done is to fit a rheostat switch to my switch panel for the Mini Spares universal heater unit. It is single speed as standard but can be speed controlled by the rheostat switch from Lucas.

Both the switch panel and bracket needed a tiny bit of fettling with the Dremel then it all went back to together and looks great, almost standard.

Wondered how long it would take for someone ask, haha!

Roughly 160hp & ft-lbs @ 10psi

It would take 200hp but I'm happy with that for now...

The welding is finally done, another milestone reached!

attachicon.gif 20210109_135245.jpg

Pretty happy with it overall, the only thing I would have changed is fitting the genuine windscreen surround lower repair panel instead of just the two corner panels.

Here is a total of all the panels which is the net cost as we don't pay VAT over here and no shipping so take it with a pinch of salt.

Most were non-genuine and the guys said they didn't have any major issues fitting them...

attachicon.gif Capture.JPG

£900ish for new front end, boot, bonnet, inner & outer cills, front floors, boot repair, lower valance, door skins, a panels, a post & door step and a few other bits.

We agreed 80 hours for the welding @ £25/hour so £2,000 labour.

The shell is booked in for paint on the 18th and he has quoted me £2,000 so I am looking at roughly £5,000 all in.

Friends have used the painter before and have been very happy so fingers crossed it will all be ready to start bolting back together in a few weeks time...

That's pretty much what I paid for similar work

She's home! It was tight but with a few bodies we managed alright.

Now the fun really starts...
