I recently bought a 1992 mini after ages of wanting one. I'm still getting to know the car. But I found a switch that seems to do nothing. It has been fitted by a previous owner, the guy who I bought the car from didn't know what it was for either. It has been fitted just under the steering column, i followed the wire to a new relay under the bonnet, to an inline fuse then to the starter motor? Anyone seen or heard of this before?
My first thoughts it could be a security switch to stop the car being started, but as I said it does nothing.

Or wiring for an electrical accessory that took power from the starter motor.

I'm gonna say it's anti theft dead switch, as it's the same wiring as others I've seen. It just don't work, well it won't stop a their anyway.lol. I shall look into it.

Depends what terminal it's attached to at the solenoid. The battery cable connection is a good place to tap +12v permanent live from.

I had something weird in my mini too. Its a thin metal pipe/Cylinder that reminds me of a valve. It was also a special Killswitch/anti theft thing but in under the dash.
Does it look like this?

I wired in my aux cooling fan like this, power pickup at starter motor post, fused, switched live relay to lower voltage toggle switch with red LED on end. Mounted it on the dash though. Check the posts at the relay to see whats connected and where it ends up..?
