Hi does any one know what year the clocks changed over to the position in front of the steering wheel? Would 1978 cars have that layout in any models? I have seen a car for sale with that layout advertised as a 1978 model. I thought it was later than that they changed.

you cant date it by the clocks. we fitted what we wanted when we could to make them look newer. yes it was in the 80s that the were mainstream but were also available much earlier in the 1275 GT

The Clubmans had offset clocks in 1969.

Thanks for the reply, ya I know what you mean about fitting what we could to make them look newer, I did it myself back in the day with the dash pad and whatever else I could to make them modern looking which was why I preferred the clubman look. This car is up for €5500 euro but has the dash cap and the double clock in front of the driver so I was just trying to get a feel for what was genuine and what is an aftermarket add on. Here in Ireland re registering later cars with old Reg numbers is wide scale so a lot of investigating needs to be done beforehand so as not to get caught with a ringer

Think the mini special (1979?) was the 1st round nose mini to be factory fitted with clubman type clocks and dash rail.
