I think i want the softer one that goes all the way around the lip. The one i have has an inch gap at the ends and is kinda stiff. It doesnt leak but im trying to stop the exhaust from getting back in the car and sealing the boot lid is job one.

Where can i get the better of the boot seals for my mini? I need the one that fits around the lip, not the one that goes on the lid itself. It seems there are a couple different suppliers to pick from.

I got the one that fits the body, and havnt had a leak once. Been out in bad rain before. think both will work well

I've just fitted a new MiniSport boot seal after the IJ was resprayed and the old seal, like Kit352, had an inch gap at the bottom. New seal fits all the way round but problem now is that I can't get the boot lid to lock (hinges and lid were removed for spraying) Seal is holding the boot lid about an inch away from full closure. What have I missed or done wrong?

Have you got the sealing lip on the new seal facing in or out? It should be facing out, ie. towards the edges of the boot not the centre.
Deffo facing out. Thinking while I write this, I'm just wondering if I need to drop the lid on its hinges a tad, in case it is just binding on the top run of the seal and that is what is stopping it going all the way in

It comes oversized, cut it to fit.

Minisport one was oversized as well and was only £8. Phoenix one is 50% more

50% cheaper, but yet you can't get the boot to close after fitting....

Anything those incompetent idiots sell is a 100% worse.

OK, despite what people think, I was fairly sure that the new seal was not the cause of the problem for me. Looking a bit deeper into what might be going on, I found a situation where, looking at the top flange and where the lock would be rotated to close the lid I found an extra strip of metal which is currently bent towards the flange. Question now for me is, - what should it be doing. Should it be bent back, so is behind the boot lock catch when it is closed, straightened or what? (Would have posted a pic to explain, but was informed it didn't like JPG's pasted into the post)

Have a look at the images on post #7 on this thread:

If it's that striker plate that you are refering to it's meant to have that bend.
