my tin of holts damp start has finally run out after 6 years (not bad going!).  I was then shocked to find that it doesnt seem to be made anymore (or at least i cant seem to find it online).  does anyone use anything else to seal their ignition?

thanks

Rich

I've used wd40 before now when I've gone through deep puddles and it's upset the mini

Carplan ignition sealer worked well but you can't get that now.  Seems Gunk did a version too but you can't get that either.

It seems like most the alternative ones are all gone as well. Curse these modern cars!

WD40 is guaranteed to cause a miss fire as its a good conductor which is exactly what you don`t want on your HT leads.

In nearly 40 years of all year round mini driving I have not had the need to use ignition sealer so I would suggest a new cap, a set of leads and clean your low tension wires.

Oh and a ignition shield if you don`t have one.

I've managed to find the odd can here and there, every time I see a independent car spares store I pop in and ask the question, none of the big name stores have it anymore.

Wet start was a dispersant to get rid of damp once it had got in;  Damp start was sealant to keep the damp out in the first place.

Wow, thats an old tin!

thanks for all the responses.  I agree that a well serviced mini shouldnt need it, but its one of those things i have always used, and have never broken down due to the wet.  I am giving the car a full service, as its about to go from Fife to Orkney (300 miles) and want to make sure Ill make it!

I saw that, tried to buy it but my virus scanner blocked it (and not just from my PC)
