What do people currently use to purify rust? Just about to grind back some surface rust and I want to make sure it is converted. Just wondering what are the most effective treatments prior to priming.
Thanks

Bilt Hamber Deox gel.

10% citric acid mixed with wallpaper paste similar to Deox C, Rinse afterwards with warm soapy water. brilliant.

I don't think I've ever seen 'surface' rust on a Mini apart from on the subframes. If body panels are rusting there's usually a deeper reason that can't be fixed without a welder.
So to answer the question, none. A grinder with a knot-brush or linishing wheel for cleaning up rusty subframes. If it's panels, a 1mm slitting disk and/or a spot-weld drill-bit with a visit to a panel supplier.

It's actually not for a Mini, just wanted some advice for a converter.
Thanks

I'd try the Deox Gel first.
You have to follow the instructions to the letter though even though it seems like a huge faff.

I use Kurust which seems to do the trick!

I use Hammerrite green gel and or Por 15 de ruster. the trick ist to keep it all wet, so cover with PET or cling film and let the rust remover work as long as poss.
Rust converter is some what miss leading, Jenolite and most of the others just seal the rust and turn it black, The rust is still there and will rust on.
If you have heavy rust then cutting it out and replacing is the only answer.
and dont think these rust removers will work wonders they dont.

Forget the KURUST etc. they call this a rust convertor. basically, if you leave rust or "convert" it, it will come back.
Use DEOX gel, it is a rust REMOVER and it works.

Yea the stuff from Bilt Hamber is really good.

With the Deox, provided the rust is not too deep you are left with bright shiny pitted metal that you just need to cover over with something to protect it.
