Agree - Ed China gets the balance right for me

I used to enjoy the ones with Mark Thomas too - a few years ago now

- he did a cobra replica - restored an e type and a triumph twin

It wasn't mainstream - almost a bolt by washer rebuild - but I liked it

....(then again I read the machine Mart catalogue for relaxation)....

A Car is Born:-

Mark Evans also stripped down and restored 3 tatty Rover Mini Coopers into Red, White & Blue Italian Job lookalikes in the TV series "Dream Machines" in 2003. I have a copy of the programme on DVD recorded off Ch5 at the time. The registrations of 2 of the cars were H753 CAP and J467 VDF, all 3 were given away to one phone in prize winner at the end of the show.

This was Mark Evans reply to an email asking if he had thought about doing 'A Mini is Born' TV series back in 2008:
Thanks for your email.
More than thought about it - proposed a series to Discovery as a tribute to it.
But, see my note below.
All the best,
MARK

"I have received loads of emails from fans of my Is Born shows asking what's next. Sadly, Discovery Real Time have said that its audience isn't after my kind of workshop series any more, so there are no new projects on the horizon. Really sorry. I would love to do more.
If that bothers you, a few suggestions. You can contact Discovery Real Time via the viewer feedback part of its website to let them know what you want to watch.
Or, you could post a message at one of Discovery's forums."

We didn't get this series in the US, nor Mark Evan's stuff  - I woud have enjoyed the latter I think.

We did get all the old Wheeler Dealers shows, and a couple of seasons of Mike and Ant's version, and while I like Ant OK, the show is less than it was with Edd......

But our TV is full of terrible car shows, all full of the last minute drama and constant sales pitches for the parts they're installing - utter crap. Someone must be watching them as they keep making more of them, but I wonder who?

And when did massive burnouts become the arbiter of a successful build?

It's where Youtube can score well. Detailed content by enthusiasts for enthusiasts but at a time scale that's too slow for a film crew.

I watched the first one and it is a great idea but i didnt think it was very well made either. Shame as the idea is great, but just doesnt seem well produced. Looking forward to the Mini Cooper.

Agreed, it was a great series and compulsve viewing for amatuer car tinkerers like myself. Shame they didnt carry on, he was fantastic and very eay to relate to. Helped me no end getting my kit car on the road too at the time.

I agreed, the Mark Evans programmes were brilliant.

It is interesting what Mark said about Discovery, as that's who originally commissioned Wheeler Dealers, before Velocity (now Motor Trend) got their hands on it and then look what happened...

It’s designed for non car people who think they are car people.

Just like everyone at a petrol station is a mini expert, and ever mini is a ‘Cooper’.
