any one know of a good "standard looking" carpet set. what are the mini spares ones like ??? (think they cost around £30)

i'm trying to get the cooper as close to standard as possible so the deluxe carpet has gone.

i want as close to standard as i can without paying silly money. don't like the ones you see at shows with the coloured edges, these are a bit too basic.

the car is a 1991 cooper and the carpet needs to be black.

the best one and most genuine would be a Newton commercial, but as you so rightly point out,.. it cost you your arse to get one.

the minispares carpet is good, A friend of mine bought one for his mayfair and I fitted it, looked good and didn't need trimming! I Still have the original carpets in my mini ;D

wow! i was looking for a decent carpet set and didnt dream it would cost as much as Newton commercials price. might check out the minispares one instead. anyone heard anything good/bad about the minispares set?

I think if i bought the Newton commercial set id bab shoes! slippers / house shoes only! lol

might buy the rear carpet for my clubby estate from Newton commercial though. i dont think anyone else sells it and it makes a world of diffrence

i dont really want a buget one. i dont want to pay Newton commercial prices but somethin inbetween is ok. i want a nice thick pile, good sound proff (or can anyone recommend extra sound proffing fort under carpet?)
so a quality carpet set that isnt stupid price but isnt a budget set.

This may be a silly question but how much would it cost to buy good carpet from a shop and simply cut round the shape of the carpet you are taking out?
Or is there a good reason for not doing it?

the carpet is genrally moulded to the car and buying the budget set is easier and cheaper than anything got one ripped it bought another easily done but didnt cost too much and its an ok quality aswell.

The issue realy is, if you want it to look stanadard, then the ONLY carpet is the newton one, as they are the only ones which are actually molded to the shape of the floor pan and bulkhead..

All other carpet sets are made from flat pieces of carpet.

The best 'non-original' carpet set I've had was bought from Min-Its, which I believe is supplied by the old guy ( and his wife ) which go to the shows. His complete set fitted with braided edges, fitted pretty much straight out of the bag, with only a little bit of fiddling around the pedals and steering column ( which you still have to cut the hole for )

I've made my own carpet set before, quite successfully using std carpet and carpet tape, at least that way you can mold it better around the tunnel.

Yes I've heard nothing but good things about Newton Commercials carpet. Plus I've heard it said that it lasts and stays looking good far longer than any cheap copies too!

i had a newton one for xmas and its fantastic, cant beat it, moulded perfectly, feels great, car seems quieter, especially road noise.
it moulds around the handbrake too, so u dont need a gator, may be expensive but in my eyes its worth it.

I bought one from Minisport and it fitted OK. It was around £40 I think.

theres one that does very good if not better alternative that I first met at the billing show in Northampton, has now got a full page add in min mag.

Were he does a full 10 piece carpet set including the parcel shelf with ALL visible the edges finished with trimming the same colour or a contrasting one of your choice all for £25

Also do tailed floor mats (same as carpets and can even sell you a roll of carpet for any other little trimming project to mach for £3 per square meter.
