I always use a piece of copper wire, (thickish) wrapped around and over the head of the bolt to hold it to fit the 'back' ones if I am having problems. Never fails, the important thing is lining up the holes for which I use a tapered drift as a lever. When the nut has been put on a few threads, just pull it off.

Left hand, I mean near side. So, if I slacken off the NS mount, it should enable me to jsck up the NS of the engine for the oS to drop, right?

mini engine mounts!! sometimes a bugger others easy peasy, i've always managed to get the enginein by rocking back and fowards til 1 hole lined up and the other just came with persuasion!! maybe more rocking once the first bolt is in place

right..there have been threads about this before and i have had the same problem. it was recommended (and it worked for me) to loosen the long bolt that hold the drivers side engine mounting plate....not the rubber thing but there is an metal plate thing that fixes on to the gearbox on the drivers side, which in turn is connected to the rubber mount. if you loosen this bolt that goes from front to back of your car then that goves a little play for the engine to be manouvered.
