Has anyone else had an issue getting 10 inch tyres fitted? I went to 2 seperate tyre fitting places (both with very good reputations) last weekend and both were minimum 12inch rim size due to the minimum requirements of thier machine. Also is this even a thing or just bad choices/bad luck on my part?

Can anyone recomend a tyre fitting place that excepts 10inch wheels in south London/the early parts of Kent?

Our equipment at work won't fit or balance 10's.
4 wheel alignment equipment doesn't fit either.

This is proving to be a bit of a problem!!

Whilst I dont mind travelling to get tyres fitted (its not something you have to do on a regular basis afterall) it is still a PITA! Also I dont necessarily want to take my lovely, expensive, new wheels to Billy Bobs back road tyre fitters (unless there is a recommendation that is) as they are the only ones with old enough equipment to fit 10s

just a thought but...

Try going onto one of the tyre sites like blackcircles. Search by tyre size, opt for fitted, enter your postcode and it should give you a list of garages within your selected area that should be able to fit them. Unfortunately, it isn't always up to date so you may need to ring but at least it'll give you an idea. Then see if you can find reviews on any of the garages.

I ended up fitting my 10's by hand, no tools. Fitted wheel to rear hub on car - hand brake on, plenty of soapy water and lots of effort and sore knees from pushing the tyres with my knees. Still couldn't balance them on our balancer so bought a cheap bubble balancer and spent ages modifying it to work properly.

A lot of tyre machines aren't able to clamp 10s... A mate has one that goes smaller. You'll have to search for a 10" friendly place bud. They do exist but they're few and far between.

I've found the smaller companies to be really straightforward over the years.  I prefer to avoid the big names.

The one I currently live near was able to balance my 10s.

There are trailers still using 10's, might be a line of enquiry through local businesses.

I have some 1/4" strips of leather and combined with the plastic protectors the machine will grab the rims good enough to fit the tyres at work.

No problems with balancing.

My Dunlops came with a label stating the warranty would be void if machine fitted but unlike thinner walled tyres they are very difficult to fit by hand and rubber mallet.

I popped a couple of Marshalls on with just my hands and a bit of tyre soap on 3.5" rims.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Looks like im in for ringing around a few places! I will definately also try black circles just to narrow down the possibilties.

If not or if this proves to be extra difficult I may look at getting some of the equipment and doing it myself especially as I assume it will only get worse from here as tyre places replace thier machinery and as a general rule your average family car has giant wheels (it wouldnt surprise me if 18s were average size now!!)

If you can get over to Ingatestone, Martin at LED tyres will sort you out. Say Olie sent you, and you should get a tyre fitted and balanced for £10. Ring ahead as he is a one man band, but he will sort it for you im sure. (He has fitted tyres with out issue to my standard 10" steel wheels).

His tracking gauges wont track 10" wheels though.

Proper old school garages will be more likely - the ones that can't afford to (or don't see the point in) buying shiney new equipment just 'because the salesman's been round
