998, HS4 carb, electronic ignition, no mods. 

 

Have problems with starting hot engine.

 

Firstly, when the engine is hot, when I turn the key there is no battery/charge light. 

On cold engine it comes on and goes away after engine start. 

 

Hot engine starts very unwillingly, it coughs, on idle rpms fluctuates between 400-700 and it tries to die.

Revving it up or pulling choke helps. So in order to be able to drive it i need to pull a choke more than half.

After several minutes it normalizes.

 

Also worth mentioning, that when the lights are on, on idle after revving the rpms drops very low, till 400 and then slowly climbs up till normal idle. Only choke helps not to stall. With lights off, rpms drops only to 700. 

 

 

Recently I had replaced: coil, plugs, leads, rotor, cap, vacuum pipe. Dash oil topped up. Carb is new.

It runs much better, but problem still persists. 

 

Have not find clues in forums. Any ideas?

Firstly I would put a voltmeter on the alternator and see what Voltage its pushing out to see if the unit is doing its job properly.

Secondly what colour are the plugs when the engine is warm and not on the choke

Thanks! I will check alternator. Plugs were black before, so I leaned mixture, now they are more on the correct side.

I wonder if you have leaned it off too much.. try riching it up a little to see if that improves it at all
