1. Bagged a small bore cooper freeflow manifold on eBay - the outlet fits the 1 1/4" bore standard system perfectly, result!
2. Cut back box off and replacing with Mk1 sprite centre exit - this is 1 1/2" so will buy an adaptor to step down to 1 1/4" for £4 at my local motor store . The whole lot has cost me £40.I'll fit it after the weekend and report back here.
Meanwhile if anyone wants a 2" bore single box stainless system message me. I'm in Oswestry Shropshire

So I now have all the exhaust parts for a small bore exhaust setup :
I'm in Oswestry Shropshire
oh dear. that step down will not help one little bit.

It's actually a step up from the 1 1/4 centre pipe up to the sprite rear box. Remember it's only an 850 so we want to keep gas velocity up as far along as possible, couldn't do much about the rear sprite box but shouldn't really harm

Some issues to be aware of
first, the freeflow manifold fouled the fuel pump outlet so I had to remove rotate and refix the pump top, still not totally happy as the fuel outlet still runs only a few mm away from the exhaust manifold. I'm running braided fuel hose bit even so you can't be too careful.
Second, the sprite rear box tailpipe is too short, emerging only just behind the rear valance lip. I may just add a chrome tailpipe.
Third, with the oe middle silencer still in place, it's probably too quiet for me. sounds like the stock system. I can see myself on the lookout for a used single box 1 1/4" oe system to chop up for the middle pipe without the middle silencer.
Perhaps it will grow on me as it stands I'll see how it goes. Should be marginally more lively than the previous ridiculously oversized 2" system. Definitely liking the center exit look

Thanks. If you check the post you'll see I used a freeflowIf you have an LCB exhaust it will be tight at the fuel pump, you'll need a free flow 3 into one manifold.
Hope this helps

Once the car is motd I'm hoping it should run better than the previous drainpipe affair. Every fraction of a bhp helps with an 850

Thanks guys for your input. Maniflow freeflow seems the way to go agreed.
I'd still appreciate some viewpoints on the sprite back box
Do you mean an Austin-Healey Sprite Mk I? The "Frogeye"?
Yes the frogeye. It's a bit old school but I noticed Clive Trickey recommended this.
Back in Clive Trickey's days we used to use an MGB centre box as a back box. It was oval but very shallow and didn't get ripped off so easily as the standard cooper box.
