Have a 998 mini and want to improve the performance, would a webber 40 carb be much of an improvement over the standard SU?
It says that it will fit 1100cc + on the advert but they did not know if it would be ok on a 998.
Its got a performance cylinder head, fast road camshaft, full exhaust system, manifold and electronic ignition.
I know it will need setting up, but want to know if it will work before I buy it.
Cheers.

Use the search it is your friend!!!
There have been a few threads about people putting Webers on small bore units recently, have a look through them.
Basically though, it'll work, but will prolly be overkill for all but race tuned 998s IMHO. Yer average HIF38 SU is prolly more suited and more than capable when set up correctly.

i am not keen on webbers on anything below 1275 ... as above i think SU (HIF38) is a great carb and has lots of potential when set up properly. A 1 1/2" carb won't start restricting the power until around 80-90bhp ... and you'll be lucky to be getting that from a 998!
I would go for twin SU's on 998s every time, i think the noise is as good as a webber ! ... and if tis good enough for works coopers .... though you'll find lots of people saying they're fidlly to set up.

I'd say twin 1,1/4 Su's or a modified HIF38, as per Mr Vizard's wonderful book, the get it on a rolling road to get it just right...
