I need to replace my front brakes. besides the pads and springs what other parts do I need to go ahead and replace while i have it apart? it's for my 1980 1000 with original eqiupment.

If it's still on original drums you need shoes, not pads. Always change both sides. Check the backplates for corrosion and check the adjusters.

id get a disc setup if i where you! thats the route im going, as drums are sooo awkward to keep up to standard.................. but u will need shoes, springs, fluid, ajusters (if urs are gone) would check ur wheels cylenders see if thery worth replacing, and if the drum itself looks worn (majorly) new set of them too.

cheers all, just went to minispares and picked up new shoes, springs and drums and got tmf 5% discount. the adjusters and back plates look pretty good so i decided not to get them. i want to keep this one as original as possible and that's why i'm not swapping over to disc brakes.
