Machine Mart offers a decent range of sensibly priced imperial spanners and sockets to get you started. You can then pick up more specific items e.g. sockets for hub nuts as and when you need them.

You will need an 1”5/16th socket. Half inch drive. Front hub nut.

I would get a halfords set of spanners, great quality and lifetime guarantee. https://www.halfords...set-439177.html

Or if you want to spend as little as possible, get yourself down the local boot sale with a list of sizes. There's loads for sale usually and a lot is old school so built to last.

Another vote for Halfords Pro range. I bought my set in 1999 and it's still working fine. The plastic case gave up about 5 years ago, but I've put all the sockets on a tool wall now anyway... I also recommend the Clarke Pro range from Machine Mart as I've got some of their stuff. Ratchets have a nice "feel" to them.

I've found that car boot sales can be a bit hit and miss - you either find what you want really quickly or you're looking for years. Unless it's a known brand I tend to buy most of my tools new. That said I have had some fantastic bargains simply from being selective at boot fairs. SU spanner at 10p? Thank you very much!!

Broken a couple of 7mm hex sockets from their Pro range and both replaced without hassle.

On a similar note, I have been looking for some Imperial reversible rachet Spanners like the metric Bahco ones but can't seem to find any anywhere, the metric ones I have are super useful, I would love to find an equivalent in Imperial. Any ideas?

I was looking for a set of ratchet imperial spanners for ages after getting a set of the halfords metric ones. I ended up picking up a set of craftsmen ones when I was in the USA. Theres these sets in the UK the seine ones look ok and have good reviews.

Wera do their Joker range ... but they are not cheap ... I have a really old 7/16 and 1/2 one (not Wera) which did most nuts/bolts

I second the Halfords pro stuff.  Blag a trade card first.

King Dick do nice ratchet spanners in AF, not the cheapest but quality stuff and made in the UK. You can buy all their spanners and socketry items individually and I feel its very well priced.
