I’m about to fit a new heelboard into the car, now I’ve found the time to do this due to lockdown!
As the subframes off the car I thought I’d bolt the panel to the subframe and then use this to line up the heelboard. How ever when I’ve come to do this, the distance between hole centres in the trunnions are about half a hole out (closer) than the heelboard panel.
Has anyone come across this before? What’s the best way to rectify this? Can I space the trunnions bolts out slightly or am I best to cut the panel down the middle and shorten it equally each way?
Thanks!

Use spacers to space the grunion carriers to the required distance.

Heritage panel - I think the hole centres are right on the panel as they’re 50.5 inches on the dot!

Just put them between the Shoulder of the bolt and the subframe?

Have you fitted new rubber bushes to the trunnion or are they the old ones??

Yeah I’ve put new bushes in and tried them both ways. The correct way round for them actually brings the holes even closer and are nearly a full hole out!

I did opt for poly bushes (that was what was already on there from the last owner and I know the rubber on the mini scene can be very hit and miss)

Okay so I had seen somewhere else that it looked like they went the opposite way round. I have swapped them over now and it is roughly one hole out - I will take a picture and attach!

So this is how far out it is - with bushes fitted as per the drawing above!

Just going back a step, is the original heelboard still on the car?? Have you carefully measure the spacing of the trunnion bolt holes on it??

It isn’t, I stupidly took it out because I thought I’d be able to use the subframe to check, which I now realise is a mistake. I left one half in (I planned on cutting the full panel down and fitting half at a time) and then using the remaining 6 bolts to line the panel up.

It is at time like this where I wish I had done a study on the differences between how the rubber and the polly bushes pulled up.

i am sure the polly ones will be compressing the inner part more as it does not spread as well at the other end.
