I pulled my first Mini engine out on my own when I was 17. No Haynes, no help from more experienced people. I just decided 10 years of technic Lego was training enough and off I went.

I had hiccups. It was a learning curve but I did it, and I'm a bit of a doilem :)
With the help and advice available these days you're pretty fortunate.

As said though. Get a Haynes. And whilst at it get me one as I've lost the blue one and the yellow one doesn't go up to 1992. Haha

Hahah brilliant! The Haynes manual does come in handy then haha
