I am getting quotes for redoing the front end of my 96 Cooper, and wondered if anyone has had any experiencde of a similar job. Basically from the A panels forward all panels need replacing and then painting bar the bonnet. Have had one quote of approx 2k all in (for all panels, paint, labour and vat). I've seen the quality of work and it is really pristine. Does this sound about right? Anyone know?

depends what panels are been used, the colour etc.

I would say 2k seems a lot for the work.

2k would set you up for a top class concours quality re-spray with all rust got rid of and straight panels all round.

I'd say it's a bit expensive mate.

Thanks for that. I've seen the work like I said, and I beleive it is top quality to concours standard. Perhaps that's why I'm only getting half a car for that sort of money! I'll keep shopping around and see what else I get quoted. I'm only having it redone to original BRG aswell, nothing fancy, it's the only colour for me!

true but a mini front will only line up well one way, there's no nearly or maybes!! 2k would get you're entire car sprayed to a full concourse standard buddy with all the prep done, all blemishes taken out, rust gone ... the lot!, you've gotta think what the car's worth already.

Also think about the value of the car after the work is done. Can you see the work adding on anywhere near 2K to the value of the car afterwards?

for £2000 I would expect EXTREMELY top quality work. I was quoted £1200 for prep and paint in Zaki green and £1300.00 For prep and paint in Scobby Blue. So £2000 seems a fair price including pannels being replaced ect ect.

So yes it does seem a fair price for top quality work but i would look around because you may be able to find it cheaper.

I'd be looking at £500-1300 for a sensible price.

I mean this will depend on the panels used, non geniune or geniune.

Also if the scuttle needs any work, corners or full. This may increase the price.

Is it solid BRG or metalic? This can effect the price, but £2k is steep.

Thanks guys, seems like it's a bit steep then. I'm living in Belgium see and have had this quote out here as I was thinking of taking the car of the road for the winter and getting it put right. I would say that the parts are top quality knowing the guy like I do, and he is good and always using the best/aftermarket spares rather than bogstandard, so that may be affecting it. Also, VAT is 21% out here which doesn't help. The exact spares he is quoting are: 2 A panels, 2 wings, scuttle, window frame, bonnet, front 'nose', waxoyling and painting (BRG metallic).

It sounds as if the car is in a complete mess having all this done I know, but to be honest it isn't. There is bubbling on the scuttle, round the headlights, and the A Frames are on the way. Back end of the car is okay, I've had a bit done there already. Think it may be overkill completely replacing the lot with the new panels, but unless I can get an alternative quote I'll never know. Does anyone know of a good bodyshop in the UK I can ask? Doesn't really matter where, South West is best but Birmingham down would be ok.

get real guys and do your maths. £2000 is a hell of a good price.
new panels,
2 wings @£47 each =£94
front panel @£75
bonnet £80
apex panels @ around £15 each = £30
screen surround or half scuttle around £70
closing panels around £12 each = £24

all this comes to £373 and this is english prices, will be more in belgium plus vat at 21% =£450.70
paint and materials around £60 plus vat = £72.60
labour, around 40 hours work at say £30 per hour, and thats a cheap english rate,
=£1.200 plus vat = £1.452

total =£1.975.30

You know you're almost bang on mate. Had a quote from Wood & Picket as suggested, came in at 1924.65 all in incl VAT. So 2K appears to be the bench mark.

concourse cars must have gone way down hill then if u think 2k will get u that, get real add up the labour paint, panles if needed, dents, rust etc well over 2k, unless ur bodyshop sprays over rust lol??

:P

No way you could get a mini completely restored to concourse standard for £2k!
