As corteously informed by teapot there have been a number of posts about starting a mini after being a long time off the road. However after an hour of searching and reading on this forum I can't find such posts :genius:

My Story is here, can anyone highlight some relevant posts or give some pointers for what I need to consider before trying to turn over my 92 1275 Cooper?

Firstly I'm going to give it a wash and remove all the cobwebs, spider eggs and snails :P then where should I go?

Thanks in advance!

Hmm. There's a lot of this (click here) sort of thing arising from specific problems. I'm just concerned that your engine may be the worse for wear after being driven without oil.

firstly i'd oil the bore then i'd change the oil and filter too and make sure you top the filter up to the top before you put it on!! then turn the engine over with the plugs out till the oil pressure light goes out!! then you shouldnt do any damage to the engine when it comes to starting her up!! just dont rev it for a few minits!! just let her sit at tickover!!make sure the oil gets through the wholelump!!

i have not looked at the previous posts so it might say in them, before starting a engine that has stood for a long time, pour redex in the bores and let it stand for a few days as it frees of stuck piston rings.

Okay, so here's my checklist. Thought i'd post it for future reference for anyone else and if anyone spots anythign that's missing please do add to it.

Shopping List
Engine Oil
Oil Filter
Oil Filter Remover Tool
Oil Can
Spark Plugs & Leads
Spark Plug Tool
Jerry can of fuel

Oil the bores

Replace Fuel

Change Oil and Filter

Charge Battery

Clean Engine

Change Plugs and leads

Obtain Oil Pressure

Change Clutch and Brake Fluid

I'm not sure about the redex thing as there seems to be mixed opinion as to whether it's necessary, I'll try without first but might come back to it.

Any other additions much appreciated.

P.S. Whats the best way to empty the fuel tank? I'm not sure how much is in there but I'm hoping there's an easier way than taking it out and turning it upside down?

i've always been told redx is bad as it strips all the lead out the engine or somthing.

Midridge2 is not suggesting using Redex to run the car on... and rightly so, but he is saying pour some down the bores to free off pistons, i would strongly recommend this too. otherwise (worst case scenario) you're gonna get some chunks missing and broken rings.

This is the only time I would recommend Redex for anything, it is good for this use, I have also used Pepsi/coke in the past, and some people use diesel, but Redex is a good, safer alternative. and it lubricates too!

Which in particular redex product would you reccommend?

I found this list:
Redex Advanced Cleaners
Redex Lead Replacement +Octane Booster
Redex Lead Replacement
Redex Injector Treatment
Redex Petrol Treatment
Redex Diesel Treatment
Redex Smoke Treatment
Redex Stop Oil Leak
Redex Oil Treatment
Redex Engine Flush

Thanks,

Dan

Also, this might seem an incredibly dumb question however I couldn't find the answer anywhere.

By oiling or redexing the engine bore, am I doing this through the spark plug sockets or is there another easy access method?
