Pulled the head off and revealed blown HG between 1&2.



I'll get the head and block cleaned up, decoke the piston tips and get it all reassembled with new gaskets, see how we go from there.

Coolant was completely clean, as was oil. This was a victor reinz head gasket which was installed July 2024, and covered roughly 6000 miles over that time.

Why does that happen ? Because of a warped head or block ? or a bad low quality head gasket ?

Have you already cleaned the piston on the right? It looks nice and shiny?

No that's how it looked when I took the head off...

I was also wondering why the head was so hard to get off....I forgot to undo the bypass hose, pulled it clean off without undoing the jubilee clip!

I've done that with the hose. As long as you don't repeat that in reverse. No, I haven't done that, yet!

 

Interesting about the piston difference. What would the reason for that be I wonder? Daz.

In my experience clean pistons/valves are due to water in the combustion chamber.Steve..

Started striping down the head this morning, cleaned off all the old head gasket, removed valves and inspected both them and the seats, all look to be perfectly fine. Put a straight edge across the head and it all looks completely flat.



I've lapped in half the valves with coarse then fine grinding paste, so I'll do the other half when I get more time at it, then get onto reassembly and see how we go from there.

I haven't cleaned off top of the block or piston crowns yet. Will have a closer look at the markings that showed up on the inspection camera, to see if they're anything significant.
