mg manifolds give more room to play than most because they are quite a short manifold! i think vizzards words were "its almost perfect but about 1inch too short"
torquemaster is the worse for fitment because it tilts the carb up at an angle!! maniflow is pretty much like a copy of the mg in its lengeth and shape!! id use the maniflow for a 998 and the mg for a 1275 purely because the port sizez on an mg are probably a little large for a 998
I like learning stuff... )

I have a water cooled alloy manifold so can i run without the spacer as my HIF hits the bulkhead underneath the round hole and i would have to do a bit of bulkhead welding to rectify this problem.
For info go for HIF's they are a cracking improvement!!! Easier to adjust and hence easier to set up... no more knackered hand from adjusting the mixture screw

It was there to help stop heat transfer from the cast iron unit to the carb.

well in that case i guess i'll be fine. if clearance with the throttle arm is an issue i'm sure i can make up a thinner spacer so it still doesnt hit the bulkhead.

You can buy thinner spacers, its a good idea to get one anyway as they dont cost much and you can guarantee linkage clearance.
Please please dont forget to order shorter manifold to carb studs as well, the standard ones are way too long when you dont fit a spacer.
When I did mine recently, I used a maniflow inlet and the linkage does slightly fowl but I used the original spacer and employed a hammer to bend the bit where the K&N cone baseplate just touched the bulkhead hole.

Hijacking this thread (it is relevent)
The 11mm spacers are on back order, the carb does need a spacer even with the shorter studs(you physically cannot get the carb on the studs). I have made a spacer from 12mm plywood, would this be sufficient or do you think it would leak air?
Thanks
David
