Indeed. I've been using SU damper oil for some time but latterly, after the latest mod, the car wouldn't idle properly and wouldn't pick up nicely from low revs. I wicked half the SU oil out and topped up with 20W50, all is well again.

I tried mixing mine 50/50 and my cars still wouldn't accelerate well enough (pulled smoothly but just not quite hard enough)

I ended up having to go all 20/50 and it runs perfect

Like you said Cal, every car has their own needs.

So I got the carb out and I have notice my needle leaning to one side all the time. Pulled it out and noticed that the little sleeve that holds the spring is not completely flat, I cannot see any indentation on the seat that would hold this little outdent.

Also: Is there any gasket that would stop the damper oil from running down the carb?

I should add that the needle is in fact straight

Also the needle does wiggle around a lot when it's in the sleeve, I suppose that's not good either.

The little outdentation won't allow the needle to fit snug in the sleeve to it pops out and is just held by the spring causing it to wiggle.

What is the correct way of installing it?

Take the sleeve, push the needle through it so the shoulder rests on the bottom of the sleeve. Then push the spring on the top of the needle. Then install the combo in the piston, make sure the sleeve sits flush with the piston.

I have cleaned everything and it's ready to go back into the car, I'll use 20W50 now.

One more question:

What the hell is this thing that's sitting in my fuel line?

Is that a fuel filter or a pressure stabilization thingy of some sort? I know that there's a little filter at the rear where the fuel pump is, so what's that thing?

Thanks

Isn’t that your mechanical fuel pump? Do you also have an electric pump at the rear?

That's a mechanical fuel pump. The car might well not run well if you have an electric pump too... I've never tested it so just a guess
