work looks fantastic!! i am looking at getting a couple things touched up on my mpi as i have a couple splits in the paintwork ( 1 on the bonnet & another towards the rear. only thing is i am worried how much these things cost

The reality is, the sooner you get them fixed, the cheaper it will be. They will only get worse!

Graeme is correct of course.

Your best bet would be to get a quote. Most places will provide a free quote with absolutely no obligation so it's not going to cost anything to find out.

You might be surprised!

Cheers

Ben

Wasnt sure I'd get any more time in this before christmas but I managed a few hours to get the o/s stripped back to bare metal and got the repairs blended in and the door gaps finalised.

Ben, how did you get this back to bare metal? Grinder with a nylon disc? Sander?

Thanks

Jason

Thanks

Jason

This being an 80's mini and 100% original paint, it's very very thin so it buzzed off easily with an 80grit disc on an orbital sander.

On cars where the paint is thicker and non original with years of repairs and touch ups to remove, I use 4.5" Norton blaze wheels in the angle grinder but it can be messy especially if you start chewing through filler etc.

Cheers

Ben

Thanks Ben, I just want to remove the black ecoat off my new bodyshell. Or would it be better to flat back and hit with etch primer? I'm painting in celly.

There isn't any need to remove the e coat unless its damaged or in some cases from a few years back there was rust forming beneath the e coat but I haven't seen that for a while now.

If you want to remove it, then I would just send it off rather than use anything heavier but it will be time consuming

Cheers.

Ben
