Photoracket, Photothives,,,, Love those terms - how true !       :D

But then when it goes belly-up like Photoracket (or they decide to hold all their subscribers to ransom) you lose all the images!

Well,,,,,, when they are / were free we can't really expect much. Then when an opportunist comes along, they can take a chance at cashing in.

This is the issue with a lot of internet based systems. Make them free, lots of people use them, the company running them realise it actually costs money to run these things, let's start charging the users, wait a minute where's everyone gone?

Reading that article is sounds like the people who made the decision .. are no longer at the company. But it is also much, much smaller now too!

Quite. Not the case with Photobucket, but there's been others who have taken a risk by offering these internet based services - free - with an intention down the track of making it a paid subscriber service, which is fine, but when they make no mention of that in the first place it is deceptive and misleading conduct and that cheezes people off more than by making it a paid service from day 1 or offering a free period after which will be a paid service. At least it's honest.

Photothieves were a pain to deal with.

I had issues with my password so contacted them via email with my new email address as my old one was no longer in use. Never heard a bloody thing from them. Emailed them three times and nothing. Useless bunch.
