Hi folks,

After having a laugh at advertisers on ebay proclaiming that their Mini is old / valuable / tax exempt / previously owned by Elvis etc etc. when they are blatantly not,  thought we should have a thread to place all the links to funny / dodgy adverts for us all to have a laugh at.

There is a similar thread on the Mk1 mini forum which is always a fun read.

Ive just had a quick scan through ebay and typically when you are specifically looking for such an ad you cant find one but this is the sort of thing I mean:

 https://www.ebay.co....tUAAOSwh2pfPKEP

Dont keep the thread limited to scammers although those are the most fun but include ridiculously priced parts, tastelessly modified cars and dubiously worded ads etc.

I'll donate a prize for the best one at the end of the year, a  "Genuine 1958 factory development prototype Mini wheelnut, this was recently purchased by me from the estate of an old gentleman who sadly passed away, it has been in storage for 47 years. I am led to believe that it was given to the old man by Princess Grace of Monaco who was the original owner, I am only the 3rd owner. This is 100% genuine and very very rare, sought after by collectors etc etc it can only go up in value".

Lets see what you come up with.

(I tried to name this thread "W.T.F. Have you seen this item on ebay" but it seems the censoring software got offended by that!)

Mods, please change the title for a capital W.

I found that particular "1972" gem the other day and posted it another thread. It's pretty hilarious. Or would be if it weren't for people with less knowledge on minis being duped by such things.
Anyway. I think that "1972" is an spi with a carb conversion (note the choke knob). Or possibly a cooper carb with Spi seats?

Anyway. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more examples :)

What’s the thoughts here, reg Dec 1996 but has airbag and internal fuse box. Is this an early model change to MPI?

Mpi seats as well so I'd suspect a genuine early Mpi

Yeah, my MPI was also registered late 96 (but it's a 97 model year). Not sure how early in 96 the first MPI's were?

Most car manufacturers model years start from middle/end of the year before!

.

Perhaps we should have a game of “barry bingo” too? Or we can always take the piss out of someone’s work from a sale add online until they take offence and hit up the site?
We can then tear them to pieces and mock them incessantly.. just the kind of thing they wholly deserve?
After all if you can’t take a joke then why drive one?

Perhaps a new thread should be started though? We can really bait people into arguments and then take the high ground over them!
Even start a sub forum based solo on this premise?

Perfect

Scammers are of course open game and should be treated with full contempt,
we know fully that every sales person knows all there is to know about minis including the year and associated spec... there’s no excuse!

Let’s get started!

I think awareness is a good thing as long as it's harmless. I dont like the idea of baiting and slagging people off who might not be aware of what's wrong with their cars. I see this a lot on other car forums I visit and it's quite shocking to see what total disregard some people have on human beings in general.
