Hi Guys,

I recently picked up a Bosch electric fuel pump, and I'm in a right state trying to work out what AN fittings I need. I was hoping people may be able to shed some light on the subject, as I can't find a reliable source for converting between Metric, Imperial, and the 'dash' number that seem to categorize these fittings.

All I know is that my fuel pump has a female M18x1.5 thread on the intake side, and a male M12x1.5 thread on the pressure side. I will also be using 6mm internal diameter hose.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Chris

6mm ID hose doesn't work with AN fitting sizes. You need specific AN hose for the type of fitting you are using.

What are you actually trying to achieve? AN fitting through the car or just want to adapt the pump to push on hose? Generally AN6 or AN8 is used for fuel.

Cheapest option would be buy 6mm barb adaptors and run normal hose.https://www.ebay.co....f8AAOSwW~pbxFJ6

Expensive, buy AN adaptors for the pump and use an6 throughout.

Also what is the application? it sounds like you have a massively overkill pump?

Ah right I see, every days a school day!

I have 6mm ID hose running through the car at the moment but I can change this if need be, it just would have been convenient to keep it.

Sorry I should have elaborated, my engine is a brand new Specialist Components 1380 K1100 twin cam, and the pump was recommended to me by a member on the 16v mini Facebook group who sold one to me cheap. It may be a little overkill but I'm hoping the regulator will take care of that.

The barb adaptors would be perfect for the pump, but I'll need AN fittings for the fuel rail so presumably I would have to step the hose up to AN6 or AN8 (I need to double check the thread size on the fuel rail).

Thanks for the help mate.

Are you using the 044 pump?

Ok I'm guessing that you are planning a simple feed and return system without a swirl pot but no matter what you decide to use you will need a return line. I'm going to be doing the same 16v mod on my mini, what I will do is run a new 8mm feed line and use the 1/4" original line as the return. As for the fittings any motorsport outlet will have the right fittings you need, you already know the threads on each end, just buy the correct ones ie barb sizes.by the way the AN system works in 16th inches so a -4 is 1/4" -8 is 1/2" etc

I have just re-plumbed my race Mini oil cooler piping, unions and adaptors with Torques AN fittings which are much cheaper than Goodridge. I guess they are of Chinese manufacture, but they are of good quality, lightweight and give the installation a very professional look.

Their products can be found here:-             https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/torquesuk

On track cars, I use hardline these days especially if running inside

Yes I am

I wouldn’t be happy using push on fittings with the pressure that the pump is capable of producing. As Ratty mentioned above, I’d use hardline with the appropriate fittings for your pump and fuel rail. RWW mentioned Torques, ime they’re very good for road use and considerably cheaper than Goodridge.

Cheers for the advice. I'm definitely going to use proper fittings, so once I figure out what thread my fuel rail is (praying it's AN6) then I'll be going on a spending spree.

The only concern I have is the outlet on the tank. I currently have 6mm ID hose which fits on there nice, so if I change this to AN6 hose then I may have an issue getting a tight seal on there. I haven't inspected it yet so I'm just going off memory. (I'm also using a standard tank).

Feed the 044 from a swirl port then feed that using a facet lift pump off the tank and the return line

One I did a while back for a 400bhp engine. Are you sure you need an 044

Facet from tank to lower swirl side connection

Return line to swirl top side connection

Very top is return to tank

Outlet to 044

Ok, if you are using the std tank with a 6mm/1/4" outlet you can't feed the high pressure pump from it, they don't like to suck only push, it's recommended that the inlet of the pump is no less than 12mm/1/2". So unless you are going to weld a new outlet on the bottom of the tank, you will need a swirl pot, then you can put a low pressure pump on the existing outlet on the tank and feed the pot.Im going to presume that you want to run stainless braided hose as per the photo above, something I would be very wary of is cheap braided hose a lot of it not more than shower hose. Due to the ethanol content of fuel today it will rot it out in no time best stick with the well known motorsport vendors not eBay cr#p. The obvious easy way to plumb the F.I system in is to fit an MPI tank, this uses an in tank pump and has the return fitted already
