Don't forget the SC ECU controls the fuel pump earth, not the feed. I would also suggest an inertia switch as well.

This. I have mine fitted inbetween the positive line to the pumps. In the event of a crash it'll cut the power to the fuel pumps, i bought one off ebay for a pug i think.

Yes I fully agree, that was the point I was making it's a great fail safe to fit the inertia switch in the feed.

Oh right interesting! I must admit I haven't examined the loom up close yet as I've been preoccupied with spanner related jobs, but I'd assumed that the pump would be wired to the ignition switch in it's own circuit and simply earthed to the car?

To wire it up correctly you need to take a feed from pin 4 (black/orange) on the auxiliary connector and run it to the earth lead on the fuel pump. Make sure the pump isn't grounding out if you don't use an MPI set-up. The live feed needs to be an ignition switched feed preferably through an inertia switch.

Personally Ive run PTFE lined braided hose, rather than hard lines,

The ECU is designed to handle the small amount of current required by the earth, and there are hundreds of kits out there running without a relay, in my opinion adding a relay just adds further complication and another item to go wrong.

My EFI fuel pump draws 10 amps,I would personally use a relay every time.I do not know the pump driver current capability personally but a relay is cheap reliable protection,or am I just cautious.Steve..

I think we're at cross purposes here. I fully agree it needs a relay, I fitted a relay to the feed but it's controlled by the ignition switch through the inertia switch. I think what you're suggesting is control it through the earth control on the ECU. I'm happy with the way I've done it but obviously you have a different view on it and I accept that's the way you have done it. How did you manage to trigger the relay from just the earth wire completing the circuit?

I have a main IGN controlled relay controlled by a switched live.This powers on the fuel pump relay which is fed from it.The ECU earth turns on the fuel pump relay.On my install the fuel pump relay operates another relay which switches on the coils ,injectors and lambda via other relays.This leaves you able to have the ign on without the fear of a coil or injector being powered whilst tuning or reviewing settings.Overkill?probably but in another life I used to install and repair switching eqpt and it is what I just do.Other methods also work.The important thing is protection and safety.Have fun.Steve..

My ecu has a specific output for ‘fuel pump relay’, I’d be inclined to follow the instructions of whichever ecu you’re using.

Perhaps it is overkill but I think its a great setup.
