Just to conclude this topic.

I now have the new spring fitted as advised by GraemeC, this spring is a lot lighter as a result it is much easier to check clutch adjustment free play.

What was the fault? Asking for future reference

Basically adjustment.
I have never driven the car so did not know how the clutch should feel. The new return spring is quite heavy, When I was pushing the pedal I thought it was disengaging the clutch, but all I was doing was stretching the spring. In addition the hydraulics were full of air.
Once bled & adjusted the clutch now disengages, albeit a bit heavier than I thought it should be.
Rather embarrassing.


Dont feel embarrassed, you didn't know the answer to the fault so had to ask. Answering a question that you don't know the answer to is why forums are still in existence 😊

I find these forums very good. If you have a problem, ask, someone else has probably had the same problem and has a resolution to the issue.
