I have a 12g295 head at home that I am planning on fitting to my 998cc. I know that the head needs to be skimmed to raise the CR but I am not sure how much it needs skimming?
Also it needs some cleaning up as the person I bought it from must have had it in their garage for quite a while.
Is there anything else that I should do to it before fitting it?

I'll also be fitting a new exhaust, ex manifold, inlet manifold and carburettor needle. Are there any other parts that I need to change in order to fit the new head or will it go on as is?

And, out of curiosity, what sort of power and torque can I expect?

nothing states that it HAS to be skimmed!! it should bolt straight on!! if you're not sure how much has been skimmed off it before then i would personally just get them to skim it over to make sure its flat!!

while the head is off it would probably pay to take the valves out check the seats and have them lapped back in or re-cut or even have unleaded seats presed in!! and even check out the guides arent worn while you're at it!!

i know i would do the above!! if i didnt know the history of it!!

Should any engineering shop be able to do those things or is it best left to a specialist?

I'm in Ireland - hence my question as I don't know of any specialists but I may know one or two engineering outfits

an engineering outfit shuold be able to do this work, however it pays to make sure they have done this kinda work before, a slight misunderstanding or lack of skill could make the head scrap in seconds.

having said that i have heard of some pretty stupid quick irish metro turbo challenge cars so im assuming somebody out there knows what they're doing!! ring round a few garages and ask if they would recomend a firm for doing work on a mini/metro a-series engine!! if the same name crops up a few times you'll be quids in!! otherwise take ur chances!!
