Hello all.

New mini and it has a problem.

4th gear has developed a horrible grinding noise when driving.

No troubles or noises when changing gear. The noise is only present when I have my foot on the accelerator so when the engine is under load in 4th.

Anyone had this problem before?

Gavin

It's likely to be a gearbox bearing issue.  I had it with a Metro Turbo years ago.  Noises in 4th gear, can't remember whether it's more likely a 1st or 3rd motion shaft bearing (the two main bearings in the gearbox.  Either way, it's going to be an engine out job. Sure others will give better advice but it's not likely something that can be fixed cheaply.

Thanks for the reply :)

Guessed that would be the case.

Mini Gearboxes are relatively easy to rebuild.  I've done a few.  The problem is where it is placed!
