Hi, i am thinking of making a mini trailer for my AS level coursework but my teacher rekons its too hard to do :'( but he is thinking about it. So i am looking for plans or advice about how others have done it. I know this is mentioned in the FAQ section but the links dont work
I would like to make the trailer out of the rear section as i think this will be easier but i dont know whether to just weld a sheet of metal on the fron and brace it or make it a similar shape to the mini bbq which i have seen on here. Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks Mini Man Dan

The probable reason your teacher is disuading you from this idea isnt nessesarily the difficulty of constructing the trailer (its not too bad), but the fact to get good marks the idea is to create a prototype of a product which solves a problem. Coming up with this, and wording in the paperwork in such a way that the examiners understand / believe is hard to do.
I struggled as i made an RC model hovercraft, and i was disuaded from it for that reason. I got an A, but i didnt get as many marks as i would have liked, especially considering the quality of the product and my paperwork.

I made an alarm system, i got more marks for the research in crime rates, types of locks and alarms, insurance costs etc then the actual working models.

I have to agree with the last two replys, Its mainly about the research and written work, rather than the making of the product itself, I chose to do a custom boot lining kit for my Cooper Sport, Mine was different because of the way it was assembled and the extra storage features that I decided to add. I did in total about 15 A3 pages of reseach into boot lining kits and car storage, whatever you decide to do make sure you get plenty of pictures as you go along, loads more than you need! Hope that helps!
Good luck with it mate!!

hi, i made a trailer from two rears of minis, it took a long time, from oct till april in 2004, it was a much larger project than i thought, for A2 by the way.
it needed a lot of measuring and measuring again.
i used the floor of the rear part all the way to the valance of the front part, using small parts to raise to the level of the valance, sills cut down and bent to the valance of the front shell.
as for the wheel arches, i used the suspension set up in the rear shell, a bit far back to be honest(as weight in trailer was nt over the wheels)
the wheel arches at the front were filled in with flat sheet and loaded with filler, all smoothed and primed, painted with a zip decal in the middle with two contrasting colours at either end
it was 2m in length without towbar,
hope this helps, any more questions you have email me at [email protected]
